GMA Network’s historical portal fantasy series Maria Clara at Ibarra may have already concluded on television, but it continues to earn belated awards and recognition.
The show won Best Primetime Drama Series at the 37th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Television, which honored programs that aired from 2022 to 2023.
The top-rated program received the honor during the ceremonies held on August 24, 2025, at the VS Hotel Convention Center in Quezon City.
The new accolade adds to the numerous awards the TV series has garnered from various institutions over the years, including the Bronze Medal in the Entertainment Program category at the New York Festivals TV and Film Awards and the Best Drama Series award at the 45th Catholic Mass Media Awards in 2023. In that same year, Maria Clara at Ibarra ranked among the Top Google Searches in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, lead stars Dennis Trillo and Barbie Forteza, who portrayed Crisostomo Ibarra and Klay Infantes in the series, received nominations in the Best Drama Actor and Best Drama Actress categories. On the other hand, Forteza and her former onscreen partner, David Licauco, took home the German Moreno Power Tandem Award.
Maria Clara at Ibarra, which premiered on October 3, 2022, and concluded on February 24, 2024, follows the story of nursing student Klay (played by Barbie Forteza), who is transported into the world of José Rizal’s novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.
There, she finds herself interacting with characters such as Crisostomo Ibarra (Dennis Trillo), Maria Clara (Julie Anne San Jose), Kapitan Tiago (Juan Rodrigo), Sisa (Andrea Torres), Padre Damaso (Tirso Cruz III), Padre Salvi (Juancho Trivino), and more, while discovering the beauty of Filipino culture and witnessing the struggles of her countrymen under Spanish colonial rule.
