An image of the Philippines’ Mayon Volcano during sunset has won the top Tourism Prize at the 2019 PR-Bild Awards in Hamburg, Germany.

The photo “Volcano Life/It’s More Fun in the Philippines”, shot by tourism photographer Per-Andre Hoffman, placed first in the Tourism Category of the PR-Bild Awards or the PR-Photo Awards which recognizes and honors the use of photography in publication and communication. It spans six different categories: Portrait, NGO, Social Media, Stories & Campaign, Tourism, and Lifestyle.

This is Hoffman’s second year in a row to win an award for his work in the contest, both for the Tourism Category, and both of images of the Philippines. He received his second award in October 2019.

In his website, Per-Andre Hoffman titled the winning image as “Mayon, one of the world’s most dangerous volcano“.

Mayon, an active volcano in Albay province in the Bicol Region of Luzon Island, draws tourists for its “perfectly-shaped” cone, has been declared a protected UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and has been in the shortlist as a World Heritage Site.

Hoffman’s other winning photo titled, “Ten generations under one roof/It’s More Fun in the Philippines”, placed third in the Stories & Campaign Category.

Hoffman’s 3rd-place winning work is listed in his website as “Ifugao tribe, hut with human and water buffalo skulls”. Photo from PR Bild Awards.

The winning photos in the PR Bild Awards international public relations photography contest were awarded by News Aktuell.

Hoffman is internationally renowned for his environmental and promotional work, an educator, a resource speaker, a Canon brand ambassador, and a consultant for the Philippines’ Department of Tourism. His works have been featured on National Geographic Magazine, Vogue, Time, Life, Newsweek, among others.

The award-winning photographer is based in Makati and Norway, where he was raised.

Images from the Philippines captured on film by photographers have been winning international acclaim, among the more recent awards are for Jophel Ybiosa, the multi-awarded Filipino cruise photographer who won the Chromatic Awards and TIFA.

The 2019 APEC Photo Awards awarded Filipino Danilo Victoriano with both the main contest prize and the Popular Choice Award.
