MedEthix Incorporated, a Philippine-based pharmaceutical company, received two major awards at the Healthcare Asia Pharma Awards held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Its MedEthix Endometriosis Masterclass (MEM) was recognized for Most Differentiated Service of the Year and Hospital Partnership of the Year.
The MedEthix Endometriosis Masterclass is a pioneering Continuing Medical Education (CME) program created to help doctors better diagnose and manage endometriosis, a condition that causes chronic pelvic pain and infertility in women. Compared to other CME programs, the MEM provides hands-on training with real patients, giving sonologists real-world experience.
“We’re truly honored to be recognized by Healthcare Asia. Since launching MedEthix’s Women’s Health division in 2015, we have remained steadfast in improving reproductive health for Filipino women, especially for underserved conditions like endometriosis. This really fueled our commitment to create a program for better endometriosis treatment that would help both the medical community and patients alike,” shared Monaliza Salian, President and CEO of MedEthix Inc.
Endometriosis often goes undiagnosed for an average of 6.5 years due to misconceptions that chronic pelvic pain is just normal dysmenorrhea. Many women seek medical help only when the pain becomes severe or when infertility occurs. In the Philippines, while many obstetrician-sonologists manage a large number of obstetrics patients, there is limited exposure to diagnosing and treating complex conditions like endometriosis.
Established by Monaliza Salian and Vasant Salian in 2009, MedEthix partnered with Ayala Healthcare Holdings in 2019 under the Salian Group of Companies. The company’s mission is to give Filipinos better access to affordable healthcare and humane medical solutions.
MedEthix launched the Masterclass together with Dr. Nelinda Catherine P. Pangilinan, a renowned sonologist. The program trains doctors using lectures and real patient cases to sharpen diagnosis and outpatient management skills. The faculty is led by Dr. Pangilinan, current chair of the Ultrasound Committee of the Asia and Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AOFOG), and supported by two former presidents of the Philippine Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (PSUOG).
Held twice a year, the two-day intensive training selects 16 doctors and 16 patients per session. Doctors from underserved areas are prioritized to help improve access to better healthcare across the country.
MedEthix officials received the award:
MedEthix aims to eventually train all PSUOG members, now numbering over 600, to expand early diagnosis and improve the quality of life for women living with endometriosis in the Philippines.
Through this award-winning program, MedEthix brings hope for a healthier future for Filipino women suffering from endometriosis.
