Miss Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco is representing the Philippines at the first Youth Climate Summit of the United Nations (UN) to be held in New York City on September 21, 2019.

Karen Ibasco went on social media to confirm her participation in the UN summit saying, “I’m proud to announce that I am now on board with the Climate Change Commission. My journey continues in being a voice for Mother nature.”

“Learning is one area I’m always open to. I understand that I will never get to master all knowledge the world can offer but I choose to grow deeper in the area of my expertise even if it’s just a small percentage of it all. That’s why I’m looking forward to representing the Philippines for the very first Youth Climate Summit of the United Nations in New York very soon,” added Ibasco. ⠀

The Filipina beauty queen who won the country’s 4th Miss Earth title has continued to be an environmentalist even after her reign ended. The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Applied Physics cum laude graduate is a Medical Physicist who has taken on various advocacies including the World Wildlife Fund for Nature.

The environmentalist beauty will join some 500 youth leaders gathering at the UN Headquarters in New York City for the 1st UN Youth Climate Summit. The youth event is part of a weekend of events leading up to the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit on Monday, September 23.

The UN describes the summit events: “Youth Climate Summit will feature a full-day of programming that brings together young activists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and change-makers who are committed to combating climate change at the pace and scale needed to meet the challenge. It will be action-oriented, intergenerational, and inclusive, with equal representation of young leaders from all walks of life.”
