Singer-songwriter Moira Dela Torre’s hit song, Paubaya, is the only Filipino song that entered the Top 10 in the latest Apple Music Top 100 songs in the Philippines.
Paubaya is at the Top 2 spot, beating Filipino-American Olivia Rodrigo’s Billboard No. 1 and Spotify record-breaking single, Driver License, Taylor Swift’s Love Story, and BTS’ Dynamite.
Apple Music’s Top 100: Philippines, according to Editor’s notes, is “the most-played songs in the Philippines, updated every day.”
Moira released the official music video of Paubaya starring Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto on February 14, 2021. As of this writing, the MV already has 13.5 million views and counting on YouTube.
“At dito nagtatapos ang kabanata ng Patawad. Sana sa pagsalubong natin sa bagong umaga, Tayo’y natutong magpatawad at humingi ng tawad; Magpalaya at lumaya; at higit sa lahat, natutong ipaubaya ang lahat sa Kanya. Salamat, sa’yo, ” Moira tweeted.
OPM icon Gary Valenciano praised the song’s music video. “It’s perhaps the most heartfelt, authentic, and sincere music videos I’ve seen in a while. How I wish people grasp the importance of what forgiveness is all about.”
YouTuber Rizza Cayetano Pelayo shared her realizations towards the meaning of the song.
“I just realized how the end of the song is trying to tell us to trust the Lord. If it’s painful enough. If it’s too much. If it feels wrong. Give up and put everything in God’s hand. The real meaning of “Paubaya” in this song is not about a person. Not he or she because of a third party but a God who conquers it all. A God who holds the future and a God who has the power to control. “Surrender” and let God decide for your future.”

Moira was featured in the 2021 version of Danish pop star Maximillian’s viral 2019 mega-hit, Beautiful Scars, and was Disney’s pick for the local version of the song “Reflection” from the hit animation movie, Mulan, originated by the Philippines’ Broadway star Lea Salonga.
