Filipino ‘weightlifting fairy’ Hidilyn Diaz has shared the story of her Olympic journey in a new book she co-authored with the hope to inspire more children to take up the sport.

The Philippines’ Olympic Silver Medalist announced on September 9, 2020, the release of her book “Ginto’t Pilak (Gold and Silver)” which Diaz co-wrote with Eugene Evasco based on interviews by multi-awarded broadcaster and talent manager Noel Ferrer, with illustrations by Tristan Yuvienco.

“This book is the story of my life to inspire the younger generation to dream high and tell them to reach their dream but they have to work hard because there is no instant in life.

“I hope you will get inspired by this book especially right now we are in Pandemic, we need inspiration, hope, and care,” said Diaz in her social media post about the new book.

The Filipino weightlifting champion shares that the book is part of her advocacy to spread awareness about weightlifting in the hope of “finding the next athlete who will be better than I ever was.”

The new children’s book from Anvil Publishing is written in the Filipino language. Here’s an excerpt from Ginto’t Pilak:

Hidilyn Diaz is currently in training as part of her bid to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

In January 2020, before the coronavirus hit the world and caused the postponement of sporting events, Hidilyn Diaz bagged 3 Golds at the Roma Weightlifting World Cup in a performance that strengthened her Olympics bid.

Diaz had also won the women’s weightlifting gold for the Philippines at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games and at the 2018 Asian Games.

Ginto’t Pilak is priced at ₱99.00 and is available through the following sellers:
