Filipino Olympian Hidilyn Diaz has passed her thesis defense requirement to graduate with a business management degree from De La Salle College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) in Manila – achieving another milestone in her life.

After striving to give the Philippines its first Olympic gold medal in nearly 100 years, the 31-year-old weightlifting champion delivered another victory, this time in academics, with a triumphant defense of her research paper with schoolmates Paola Gumpal and Daryn Leo.

The Philippines’ champion athlete shared the good news in an Instagram post last November 12, 2022, with the caption, “Pasado sa thesis defense”.

In the same post, she also recalled being discouraged to shift to Business Management.

Despite hearing how difficult her chosen program is, Diaz persevered to finish her studies at the Lasallian educational institution.

CSB congratulated Diaz and her team in a shared post with the caption, “Congratulations, Hidilyn and Team!”

Hidilyn Diaz continues her pursuit of greater milestones as she prepares for the 2024 Olympics while planning to write a book to inspire athletes and Filipinos about her journey.

Diaz’s passing her thesis defense despite the odds while bringing honor to the country as a national athlete serves as an inspiration to others to finish their studies and accomplish goals in their lives despite challenges.

World champion in e-Karate James De Los Santos is another Filipino who recently finally graduated with a degree after serving the country as a national athlete for 14 years.
