America’s Oscars has invited Filipino American artist H.E.R. to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Class of 2021.
The multi-awarded musician was named among the 395 artists and executives who were invited to the Academy for having “distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures”.
The Fil-Am artist who dedicated her first Oscar (Best Original Song with Fight For You from the film Judas and the Black Messiah) to Black and Filipino girls is among the 25 Academy winners among the invitees announced on July 1, 2021.
Members of the Academy Class of 2021 have been selected based on professional qualifications, with representation, inclusion, and equity remaining a priority of Academy Aperture 2025. The 2021 class is 46% women, 39% underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 53% international from 49 countries outside of the United States.
Having Everything Revealed (H.E.R.) is among the 17 invitees in the Music category that includes American pop star, Janet Jackson.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a global community of more than 10,000 of the most accomplished artists, filmmakers, and executives working in film. In addition to celebrating and recognizing excellence in filmmaking through the Oscars, the Academy supports a wide range of initiatives to promote the art and science of the movies, including public programming, educational outreach, and the upcoming Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
