Overseas Filipina nurse Kit Torres has received seven portraits from professional painters in honor of her service as one of the National Health Service heroes who tirelessly treat COVID-19 patients in the United Kingdom.

The #portraitforNHSheroes initiative was started by Tom Croft, an Oxford-based artist who offers to paint a free portrait to the first NHS key worker to contact him, and which later became widespread among hundreds of artists all over the UK who did the same.

Torres, who has worked as a nurse for the Northumbria NHS Trust for 16 years, responded to the campaign and submitted her photo wearing a mask with the caption:

“Behind the mask
A warrior breathes
Fighting to save lives
Amidst the fears

Oh Lord give us strength
To face each ordeal
We may be worn out
But with your grace,
Let triumph be revealed”

The Pinay nurse immediately received an overwhelming response from 6 artists who painted her portraits using oil and charcoal and later received the 7th pencil sketch piece.

The artists who made Kit’s portraits have also sent thankful messages to the Filipina nurse saying how they truly appreciate the services all the key workers provide especially during this pandemic.

“As a Christian and a nurse by profession, this has made me realize how blessed I am, that I can somehow share my services to humanity in the best way that I could possibly can,” said Torres.

The beautiful paintings received by Torres were made by artists Mel Beadel, Ruth Jones, Emma Bennett, Emma Bennett, Lynsey Cleaver, Shanaz Rouxel, and Steve Sinnott.

Due to the overwhelming response of the art initiative, #portraitsfornhsheroes have been replicated in Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Greece, Poland, Malaysia, Canada, and America.

Britain TV host Piers Morgan also gave a shoutout to Filipino nurses working in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) as unsung heroes.

Game of Thrones (GOT) actor Miltos Yerolemou also sent a video salute to Pinoy frontliners at The Medical City, saying, “Bayani po kayong lahat”.

SEND WELL WISHES to overseas Filipina nurse Kit Torres for being honored with portraits as a UK Health Worker hero.
