Para athlete Ernie Gawilan praises New Clark City venue for ASEAN Para Games 2020

Para-swimming gold medalist Ernie Gawilan joined fellow para-athletes in a tour of the New Clark City (NCC) venue for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games and the 2020 ASEAN Para Games and had only praises for the Aquatic Center where he will see action as the Philippines’ swimming champion.

Ernie Gawilan told Good News Pilipinas that the swimming competition venue looked good and felt comfortable.

Ernie Gawilan and the Philippine National Para Athletes will be competing at the 10th ASEAN Para Games scheduled for January 18 – 24, 2020, after the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Gawilan is the Filipino triple Gold medalist in the Men’s 200 IM and 100 Back & 400 Free, Class S7 at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia. Gawilan, the 2019 World Para Swimming Silver medalist, will join the national para team competing at the biannual multi-sport event patterned after the Paralympics for athletes with physical disabilities.

Ernie Gawilan toured the NCC on October 15 together with para-athletes representing the Philippines at the ASEAN Para Games, including:

* Jerrold Mangliwan, the country’s Gold medalist wheelchair racer

* Andy Avellana, the London Paralympic Games 2012 Gold amputee athlete for athletics

* Josephine Medina, Table Tennis Bronze Medalist at the Rio Paralympic Games 2016, Medalist in ASEAN and Asian Para Games, Gold medalist at the 2019 Para Bangkok Open

* Champion powerlifter Adeline Dumapong-Ancheta, the Philippines’ Bronze Medalist at the Sydney Paralympic Games 2000 and medalist at the ASEAN and Asian Para games

Ernie Gawilan and the National Para-Swimming Team are currently based at the ULTRA Sports Complex in Pasig but train at the La Consolacion swimming pool as the ULTRA pool is undergoing renovations.
