The California-based Parangal Dance Company is back to international touring to represent the Philippines and is currently in Slovenia.

The Filipino dance troupe is showcasing the country’s folk dances and music in a face-to-face international festival in the upcoming Folkart Maribor in Maribor, Slovenia, after two years of virtual participation in various festivals across the world due to restrictions brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Pinoy folk dance group’s artistic director, Eric Solano, said that they received the invitation from the festival organizers way back in October 2021 for the 2022 edition slated from June 28 to July 2.

“The organizers checked our social media and YouTube videos, and were impressed so they invited us,” Solano told GoodNewsPilipinas.com.

They are also encouraging the Filipinos in Slovenia to catch their performances, as they will present the traditional dances from different regions in the Philippines.

“Parangal presents programs based on research and inspired dances from various regions of Philippines Kalinga (Lubuagan/Luzon), Ta’u Sug (Jolo/Sulu Archipelago), T’boli (Lake Sebu, Mindanao), and Maguindanaon (Cotabato/Mindanao) including popular folk dances the Barrio of Pangasinan, Mindoro and Leyte. All performances with live percussions and Rondalla!” the group announced on their social media.

“We invite our Kababayan to come check, support, and show up with us to raise the Philippines’ flag with us at Folkart Maribor!”

In 2019, Eric Solano led the Parangal Dance Company to serve as the Philippine contingent at the World Music and Dance Festival (WMDF) in Hakodate, Japan.

They participated as well in Colima and Barra de Navidad in Jalisco, Mexico in the celebration of the 455th anniversary of the Manila-Acapulco galleon trade.
