Vlogger-turned-actress Mika Salamanca has fulfilled her promise to give back to the community and those less fortunate after winning the recently concluded Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Celebrity Collab Edition.
The Sparkle talent donated her P1 million cash prize to an orphanage in her home province of Pampanga, honoring her commitment after she and her duo, Kapamilya actor Brent Manalo, emerged victorious in the reality TV show.
Her management, Sparkle GMA Artist Center, shared the inspiring news online on July 12, stating that the “big winner with a big heart” donated her entire prize to her chosen orphanage, Duyan ni Maria, located in Mabalacat.
“After donating her entire P1 million prize to the ‘Duyan ni Maria’ orphanage, #PBBCelebrityCollabEdition Big Winner Mika Salamanca continued her outreach by visiting a community of elderly residents to share her gratitude and compassion,” the Kapuso network’s talent management arm shared on social media.
In an online interview with GMA Network, Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre star Mika Salamanca shared that she didn’t expect to win the latest edition of Pinoy Big Brother (PBB). However, one thing was clear in her mind: if the competition turned in her favor, she knew she had to give back.
“To be honest po, wala naman po talaga sa list ko gawin sa Bahay ni Kuya ang pagiging big winner (To be honest, becoming the Big Winner inside Kuya’s house was never really on my list),” Mika confessed.
“Pero in my head, if a miracle happens and manalo dahil sa taong bayan (But in my head, if a miracle happens and I win because of the people), I want to give the winnings [away] kasi for me to feel like I actually deserve it, I want to give it back to the people who put me here in the first place,” she added.
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, actress and philanthropist Angel Locsin donated disposable gloves and medical supplies to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to support the agency’s efforts in protecting public health and safety.
That same year, actor and TV host Alden Richards donated his “Bawal Judgmental” prize to a cancer-stricken fan—a kind gesture that followed his fundraising efforts through online gaming to help families affected by the typhoons that struck the Philippines in 2020.
In 2024, actress and global fashion icon Heart Evangelista turned style into service by selling a luxury bag and donating the proceeds to a charitable foundation.
