Philippine Universities Shine in UI GreenMetric World Rankings: La Salle Dasmariñas Leads with Impressive Leap

De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) has made a remarkable ascent in the Universitas Indonesia GreenMetric World University Ranking (UI GreenMetric WUR) 2023, positioning itself as a leader among 22 Philippine universities featured in this prestigious green campus and environmental sustainability listing.

Elevating its standing, DLSU-D, located in Cavite province, surged 44 places to rank 230th globally, a significant jump from the 274th spot in the previous year. This marks DLSU-D’s 11th consecutive year as the most sustainable campus in the Philippines, showcasing its unwavering commitment to environmental excellence.

Notably, DLSU-D is now a mere 160 points away from entering the Top 100 universities in Asia, illustrating its growing influence and commitment to sustainable campus operations.

The 2023 edition of UI GreenMetric WUR saw a doubling in the number of participating Philippine universities, from 10 to 22, indicating a growing focus on sustainability across the nation’s higher education landscape. This year’s list includes 15 state universities and 7 private institutions, reflecting a diverse and comprehensive approach to sustainability in education.

Leading the world in sustainable university operations is Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands. The Philippines proudly positions its 22 universities alongside the world’s 1,183 most sustainable institutions, demonstrating significant strides in environmental stewardship.

Criteria include campus size, zoning profile, green space, electricity consumption, and six key sustainability indicators: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education and research. These elements collectively gauge a university’s dedication to environmental sustainability.

DLSU-D has been recognized internationally for its sustainability efforts on campus, including the Green Gown Top 3 Sustainability Institution of the Year.
