Philippines automated COVID-19 testing
HYBrain MEDtrix Lab is digitizing the COVID-19 swabbing for specimens.

The Philippines’ first automated COVID-19 testing laboratory is reducing the collection of swabbing specimens to an average of 6 minutes.

The Laboratory Information System (LIS) known as MEDtrix Labs automates laboratory processes and reduces the time spent by lab technicians and clients in the swabbing area to an average of six minutes.

The COVID-10 testing lab is developed by the Bacolod-based software development company, HYBrain Development Corp., assisted by the Department of Science and Technology Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (DOST-SETUP). San Miguel Foundation commissioned the company for use by the San Miguel Molecular Laboratory to run COVID-19 testing.

HYBrain’s LIS MEDtrix Lab has the following features:

  • online filling out of case investigation forms
  • PhilHealth forms to be completed electronically
  • appointment confirmation for swabbing of specimen schedules to be done through email and text messaging

The lab system generates the test results for the Department of Health (DOH) and submits it electronically allowing for faster processing of individuals compared to paper processing.

DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña announced the development of the new COVID lab in his public briefing over DOSTv on July 31, 2020.

“These digitized processes made the testing laboratory the first automated COVID-19 testing laboratory in the country,” said the DOST chief.

The world’s 1st airport PCR testing lab for COVID-19 recently started operations in Mactan-Cebu.

SEND CONGRATULATIONS in the comments below to DOST, San Miguel Foundation, and HYBrain for developing the Philippines’ first automated COVID lab.
