The Philippines made a big jump to the Top 2 spot of the 50 Most Instagrammable Places in the World in the 2021 edition of the best-list released by Big 7 Travel, improving on its 2020 ranking by 34 notches.

The travel site’s new 50 Most Instagrammable Places In The World ranking published on January 14, 2021, lists the archipelagic islands of the Philippines at No. 2, following the list-topper Tokyo, Japan, and besting 48 other countries including picturesque Paris, France which placed No. 3.

The world-famous islands of Palawan in the Philippines ranked 36th in the 2020 edition of the Most Instagrammable list and was also picked Top 11th in the World’s Best Bucket List Places for the New Decade.

The Southeast Asian nation ranked 2nd in the Most Instagrammable destinations list based on a scoring system that analyzed the number of hashtags per destination, survey results from the Big 7 Travel social audience, and input from its editorial team.

“There’s no doubt the Covid pandemic has brought about a new appreciation for travel. With many around the globe eager to pack their bags and head to the next bucket-list destination, those Insta-worthy shots are sought after now more than ever. Whether you aim to capture the cultural allure, scenic beauty or mouthwatering food of a destination, this list has you in mind,” Big 7 Travel introduced the 50 destinations in the list.

The Philippines was presented in the Big 7 Travel list as “Home to incredible natural wonders like an underground river and tranquil rice terraces in addition to a vibrant culture and history spanning several millennia, and over 7,500 islands – the Philippines as a whole are extremely Instagrammable. From the bustling capital of Manila complete with colourful colonial streets to the absolute oasis of Boracay, the gram opportunities here are endless.”

The world puts the spotlight on the Philippines in the year 2021 as the nation commemorates its part in the 500th anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the world by the Magellan-Elcano expedition of 1521.
