Filipino-American Pixar artist Bobby Rubio is at it again, pumping out his creative juice working on his latest comic book project called “Neighborhood Legend”.

The Oscar-nominated Filipino animator’s comic book project features a Filipino-American super hero named Dan Reyes who wields the Arnis.

Bobby says he wanted to highlight the use of the national sport and indigenous martial arts of the Philippines’ Eskrima also known as Kali or Arnis.

The Filipino superhero has enchanted Eskrima sticks! There are words on each stick written in ancient Philippine script called baybayin which means “strength” and “beauty” that aptly describes the Filipino martial art.

There are many interesting characters in the comic book, one of the most striking character is “Liwayway” a blind grandma Eskrima Master and Spiritual Leader (Babaylan) to Dan Reyes. Rubio shared on his Instagram that the classic “Darna”, the adventures of the Filipina superhero, inspired him to create his own Filipino-based character.

Bobby is still working on Neighborhood Legend but Filipino netizens can’t seem to wait to get their hands on it. Fans are also waiting and hoping to watch the Filipino superhero on Netflix or even see it on a film adaptation.
