Rob Bonta has received a historic mandate during the United States 2022 midterm elections and will continue his duty as California’s first Filipino-American Attorney General.

The former Assemblyman of the Democratic Party was elected for a fresh-four-year term winning by a wide margin over Republican defense attorney Nathan Hochman.

Bonta campaigned to continue his work to end gun violence and illegal firearm ownership in the state that has witnessed several mass shootings.

His campaign to be the state’s top justice worker was rewarded with the public’s nod on November 10, 2022, after serving for 20 months as an attorney general appointed by California Governor Gavin Newsom – the first time for a Filipino American to hold the important post.

“Humbled by the vote of confidence delivered at the ballot box. The returns reflect our hard work delivering results for public safety, working families, and the fundamental rights we hold dear,” Rob Bonta said on election day.

Rob Bonta’s work as California’s Attorney General drew praise from observers as he led the Department of Justice to arrest and convict gun smugglers, sex traffickers, and pedophiles, investigating and prosecutinhttps://twitter.com/AngieQBalibay/status/1590608057046020096g corporate polluters, battling multi-national pharmaceutical companies, while continuing to serve and protect Californians.

Bonta’s term also focused on the value of first responders to public safety and sought to build a stronger relationship between communities and law enforcement.

The former San Francisco Bay Area state lawmaker was born to Filipina immigrant Cynthia, growing up with both parents who are leaders in the farmworkers’ movement and worked as missionaries in the Philippines, and witnessing firsthand the injustice faced by the powerless and the poor. These experiences led to Bonta becoming a public attorney so he could win justice for the disadvantaged.
