Filipino-owned Romulo Cafe London has been shortlisted for the Golden Chopsticks Awards (GCA) in the United Kingdom.
Golden Chopsticks Awards, which is now on its second year, celebrates Asian food and recognizes the excellence and contribution of Oriental cuisine in UK’s food landscape.
Romulo Cafe London is named after Carlos P. Romulo – the country’s former Ambassador to the United States, former President of the United Nations General Assembly, the longest-serving Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, and the first and only Filipino to win a Pulitzer Prize and awarded the highest American civilian award, Medal of Freedom.
Owned by the stateman’s granddaughter Rowena Romulo and Chris Joseph, Romulo Café London has been named the “Most Loved Restaurant in Kensington” by the Time Out Love London Awards in 2016, just 8 months after its opening. Romulo Cafe London bested other more established restaurants through good service and delectable classic and modern Filipino cuisine, based on the Romulo family’s preserved heirloom recipes.
The GCA nominee serves Pinoy mouthwatering dishes such as Beef and Seafood Kare-Kare, Binagoongan, Chicken Relleno, Crispy Pata, Pork Adobo, Pandesal and Purple Yam, and other Filipino food with a twist, well suited to its 70-seater Georgian townhouse converted into a restaurant.
Romulo Cafe London is considered one of the best pubs that also serves the iconic Pinoy rum – Don Papa – to its regular customers including diplomats, businessmen, working professionals, families, Filipino tourists, plus food adventurers who would like to experience Filipino cuisine.
In a Facebook post, Romulo Cafe Philippine branches owner Sandie Romulo Squillantini announced the nomination of Romulo Cafe London to the GCA and asked for support.
She wrote, “Dear friends, Pls help and vote for us for the Golden Chopsticks Award. The Golden Chopsticks Awards (GCAs) is an awards ceremony which recognizes South East Asian (Oriental) cuisine across the UK. The mission is to celebrate the enormous contribution of Oriental cuisine to the UK catering industry and champion those who work within it.”
