Sarah Geronimo marked another milestone in her career as her viral dance craze and song “Tala” entered the United States Billboard Charts at 12th spot.

The Popstar Royalty was announced by the Billboard Charts social media on January 17 as having debuted on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart for the best-selling international songs based on sales data compiled by Nielsen Music.

Sarah G was the only Filipino to enter the charts alongside Kpop idols: Younha featuring RM of BTS (#1), Kpop group Ateez (#6 and #18), Loona (#14), and Baekhyun of EXO (#20).

Tala, composed by Nica Del Rosario and Emmanuel Sambayan, was first released in 2016 as the lead single in the 12th studio album of Sarah Geronimo called The Great Unknown. It was hailed the most played OPM song and won the Myx Music Awards for Song of the Year. It also won Favorite Music Video which has since raked in 59 million views.

The song went viral on the internet in the latter part of 2019 with Sarah Geronimo’s dance routine becoming a viral dance challenge that had people posting videos of their versions of the original dance. Sarah’s music video had her dancing in a tattooed bodysuit alongside dance group G-force performing a tricky choreography by Georcelle Dapat-Sy.

Celebrities like Maine Mendoza and K-pop’s Momoland accepted the Tala dance challenge. Philippine TV’s ASAP 25th Anniversary show featured Sarah Geronimo leading a Grand Tala Day where she danced with viral Tala dancers.

Sarah’s Popster fans and their families in their pink shirts even staged a dance flash mob for a cause and performed the hit dance craze “Tala” to raise funds for the Taal evacuees.

Sarah G also entered the Billboard World Songs chart in 2015 with her and Piolo Pascual’s The Breakup Playlist movie theme.

Sarah Geronimo bagged the Asian Artist of the Year Award at the 4th Annual Hello Asia! Awards.

The first Pinoy-Kpop boyband, SB19, also landed on Billboard’s Next Big Sound chart in late 2019.
