Shane Quintana Tormes has made history by winning the Philippines’ first Miss Global crown in Indonesia – finally overcoming odds and personal tragedies to eventually see the results of her persistence.
Tormes had previously joined several beauty competitions in the Philippines and won Miss Philippines Fire in 2020 before she was appointed Miss Global Philippines 2021.
The pageant repeater bested 72 other candidates from all over the world to be named Miss Global 2022 during the grand coronation on June 11, 2022, held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center. Aside from winning the crown, Tormes also won Miss Talent 2022.
The 30-year-old singer and model wowed both the audience and the judges with her “Perlas ng Silanganan” national costume made by Patrick Isorena.
The newly-crowned beauty queen also shined during the evening gown competition in a fully embellished gown custom made for her by Rain Fernandez.
LOSING HER MOTHER
Tormes gave an inspiring response during the Top 13 Question-And-Answer portion of the competition where all the candidates were asked about their interpretation of this year’s pageant theme, “Built to Last.”
The Pinay candidate answered, “Before my Miss Global journey, I just lost my mom last December due to cancer. And she was the very inspiration why I took the motivation to continue my journey.
“Built to last, it means rebuilding my life until the very end. I believe that in every chapter, in every adversity, we have to stand up.
She continued, “I believe that even though my mom is not physically here anymore, she has the best seat in heaven right now watching over me.
“And I believe, whatever you’ve set to, pray to, cried to, is the setup for your next best season.”
MENTORING PINAYS
During the Top 5 Question-And-Answer segment, Tormes was asked to interpret the quotation “Every day, we choose who we are by how we define ourselves” by Hollywood actress and humanitarian Angeline Jolie.
This is her winning answer: “In the Philippines, I’ve started mentoring girls in 2016. I can truly say that we can define ourselves in how we act in the community or how we serve others.
“I always wanted to encourage people and young girls to pursue their careers or whatever they wanted to move forward in life.
“It’s very important that we don’t just define ourselves as an individual. It gives so much gratitude in heart to be able to carry out with others girls, to encourage them to pursue their dreams in life.
“I always believe that life is like an echo. It gives back to you what you have given. So I encourage everyone of you to be fearless in the pursuit that sets your soul on fire. Thank you so much.”

With her successful pageant stint in Indonesia, Tormes joins the list of Filipina beauty queens who recently brought pride to the Philippines by winning in their respective international beauty derby.
Kathleen Paton of Aklan became the second Filipina to win Miss Eco International 2022 title, winning the crown during the pageant held in Egypt in March.
Also in March, Batangas’ Jerelleen Rodriguez was crowned Reina Internacional del Chocolate 2022 in the Reina Internacional del Cacao competition held in Panama.
In April, Michelle Arceo from Quezon City won the Miss Ecosystem title (equivalent to the First Runner-Up prize) of the first-ever Miss Environment International pageant in India.
