Popular audio streaming site Spotify has featured Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon Jose Mari Chan in an episode of its podcast series on Christmas music trendsetters.

Spotify announced on November 18, 2020, the availability of its “For The Record Podcast” episode “Holiday Music: It’s (Already) Beginning to Sound a Lot Like Christmas” featuring Dolly Parton, Jose Mari Chan, Black Pumas, and more.

Chan’s Christmas songs are among the top listeners’ choices during the season that Spotify data from September and October suggests have listeners seeking comfort from holiday music earlier than usual in 2020.

“Many think it’s never too early to crank yuletide tunes, and it shows: Listeners have already streamed more than 6.5 billion minutes of Christmas tracks this year,” Spotify shared.

Chan is introduced as “The Father of Christmas Music” in the Philippines and shares the inspiration behind his iconic holiday tunes that have ushered the holiday season over the last three decades for the country with the longest Christmas season in the world.

The Spotify podcast episode also included songs that are making it to the top of the Spotify listeners’ Christmas lists such as Wham’s 1984 hit “Last Christmas”, an interview with Dolly Parton who just released her first Christmas album in 30 years, a feature on the Black Pumas, the Texas soul band included in the Spotify Singles: Holiday Collection.

Jose Mari Chan recently collaborated with indie pop band Ben&Ben for Spotify’s first Asia-made holiday single.
