Team Filipinas doubled its goals to claim Win No. 2 at the AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Asia, demolishing the host country’s Tajikistan Women’s National Football Team to firm up its leadership status in the group stages.

The Philippine Women’s National Football Team (Philippine WNT) faced the local squad in its second match held on April 8, 2023, at the Hisor Central Stadium and came out big winners with an 8-0 run against the Tajikistanis – doubling its 4-0 blast against Pakistan in the first match.

The Filipinas scored 6 goals in the first half and another two in the second half courtesy of Sofia Harrison (26th minute), Tahnai Annis (28th minute), Carleigh Frilles (31st minute), Quinley Quezada (35th minute), Meryll Serrano (38th minute), Maya Alcantara (45+3rd minute), and Chandler McDaniel with two goals on the 60th and 89th minutes – giving the PWNFT the maximum 3 points and a +8 goal difference in Group E where only the top teams from seven groups can advance to the next round of qualifiers.

The second win and its previous victory against Pakistan, place the Filipinas on top of the leaderboard of Group E with 6 points, ahead of Hong Kong which also carries the same points but is led by the Philippines on goal difference, 12-5.

The Philippines’ and Hong Kong’s match on Tuesday, April 11, becomes a playoff for the top spot of their group to determine which team moves on to the next round of Olympic Qualifiers.
