Ressa, the Chief Executive Officer of Rappler online news network, was listed among Icons with Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Michelle Obama, and 10 others.

Former United States Secretary of State Madeleine Albright wrote the TIME report about Maria Ressa’s inclusion in the list. Albright writes about Ressa’s courage in the face of assault on truth, remaining “committed to exposing corruption, documenting abuse and combatting misinformation.”

“But Maria remains undaunted,” writes Albright about the government charges and court cases she and her news network and facing.

Ressa is quoted in the article saying, “We are journalists, and we will not be intimidated. We will shine the light. We will hold the line.”

“That is precisely what she has done,” writes the former U.S. state official.
