UP DLSU THE World Rankings
UP and DLSU are keeping their leadership places, withstanding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The University of the Philippines (UP) and De La Salle University (DLSU) have retained their spots as the country’s leading educational institutions in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) 2021.

The London-based independent rankings of THE WUR released on September 3, 2020, listed the University of the Philippines in the 401-500 bracket and De La Salle University in the 1001+ bracket among more than 1,500 universities across 93 countries and regions.

THE WUR evaluated how UP, DLSU, and the rest of the world’s educational institutions fared against the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic using a table based on 113 performance indicators across the areas of teaching, research, citations, knowledge transfer, industry income, and international outlook.

The UP maintained its leadership of the country’s educational institutions after it first broke through the Top 500 in THE WUR 2020.

UP has been ranked in THE WUR as among the top 1,000 educational institutions since 2017. The national university steadily climbed over the years to its current top rank at 500, moving up from top 600 in the 2019 edition, and top 800 in the 2018 rankings.

“UP is largely seen as one of the best Filipino universities in national rankings and among the top institutions in Asia. Recent improvements include academic reputation and international faculty ratio,” UP’s THE profile states.

DLSU is in the 1001+ bracket this year. The Catholic-run private university joined UP in the list when it first entered the top 1000 higher education institutions across the globe in the 2019 THE WUR results released in 2018.

“Acknowledged as a premier university in the Philippines, it serves as a significant resource for the country and rest of the global society by developing leaders and achievers in business, public service, education, science and technology, and the arts,” DLSU’s THE profile reads.

Times Higher Education WUR 2021

The Times Higher Education WUR 2021 is topped by the University of Oxford. The 2021 edition analyzed more than 80 million citations across over 13 million research publications and included survey responses from 22,000 scholars globally.

The University of the Philippines has been shortlisted for the Times Higher Education (THE) Asian Awards 2020 scheduled for November.

SEND CONGRATULATIONS in the comments below to the University of the Philippines and De La Salle University for keeping their spots in THE World Rankings despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
