University of the Philippines ranks in World’s Best Universities for Medicine

The University of the Philippines has been ranked among the world’s best universities for medical studies in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) 2021.

UP Medicine ranked 126-150 in THE WUR 2021, repeating its ranking in the 2020 and 2019 editions after its initial entry in the list at 201-250 in 2018. The ranking is topped by the University of Oxford.

THE WUR Subject Rankings published on October 28, 2020, listed the Philippines’ premier state university in the top 856 universities for clinical, pre-clinical, and health studies, featuring colleges in more than 50 countries worldwide.

UP Medicine was given the following scores:

  • Citations – 94.0
  • International Outlook – 43.4
  • Industry Income – 42.2
  • Teaching – 22.8
  • Research – 11.9

THE WUR Medicine Ranking uses the same methodology as the World University Rankings, but with more weight on citations and slightly less on teaching and research metrics.

UP Manila administers the Philippine General Hospital, designated the COVID-19 referral center at the forefront of the battle against the pandemic.

UP’s highest grade holder Tiffany Uy, topped the UP Medicine School Class of 2020.

Times Higher Education ranked the University of the Philippines as Asia’s Top 95 and Southeast Asia’s 4th best university. UP is nominated in the upcoming Times Higher Education Asia Awards for Research Excellence.
