The University of the Philippines College of Home Economics (UP CHE) released Do-It-Yourself (DIY) tutorials for face masks and asked the public to help save the medical-grade masks for frontliners in the fight against the coronavirus disease.

The UP CHE Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design Department released the complete set of tutorials for 3 types of cloth face masks, a filter, and a face shield on May 21, 2020, amid the national community quarantine that requires all citizens to wear face masks when going out in public to buy essential supplies or for work-related trips.

The 3 types of cloth face masks include:

  • 3-pleat cloth mask
  • hand-sewn cloth mask
  • ne-sew cloth mask

The UP tutorials also include instructions on creating a disposable filter for face masks and how to create a plastic face shield.

UP Diliman is also housing a COVID-19 testing center, a quarantine facility, and offers free counseling.

UP Diliman students have also designed easy-setup sanitation tents free-to-use by local government units and other establishments.

CHECK OUT the DIY cloth face masks and SEND CHEERS to the UP community for continuing to innovate solutions addressing the needs of the public during the coronavirus pandemic.
