University (SLU) School of Medicine students in Baguio City won the Intramurals title, along with the adoration of thousands of netizens who saw the video of the performance.

The 7-minute bleacher cheering routine by the medical students wearing red and white won the school’s Intramurals Overall Bleacher Cheering Championship and Best Cheerleader Award for Jonathan Jao Ruiz during competitions held at the SLU Prince Bernhard Hall on October 5.

In the video posted on Facebook by the SLU School of Medicine – Batch 2023 and their dean, Dr. John Anthony A. Domantay, the winning bleacher cheering performance displayed synchronized precision by the hands and body movements of the medical students.

The bleacher cheering video has since garnered thousands of views, shares, and comments since its posting, with netizens appreciating the precision movements by the future doctors.

Good News Pilipinas talked to representatives of Batch 2023 of the Physician Board Exams topnotcher SLU School of Medicine and confirmed that the winning routine was inspired by Marvel’s Black Panther.

The cheering team revealed that the intramurals’ theme of “sports leadership through mission and excellence” was expressed through the composition/lyrics of their cheer which combined battle cries from the Black Panther movie along with the school’s cheers.

“Yibambe! Yibambe!
INYE! ZIMBINI! ZINTATHU
Viva Medisina
VIVA IYEZA”

These were some of the words that could be heard in the video.

SLU School of Medicine – Batch 2023 credited their whole batch of 165 students, led by their bleacher cheering coordinator Vince Neil Raphael Suclad accompanied by drummer Emerson Benedito, in the creation and performance of their routine.

Asked by Good News Pilipinas how the medical students prepared for their winning bleacher cheering performance, they said, “We started practicing last September 21, 2019. We even squeezed our practices during and after 7 pm classes, despite our schedule starting at 7 am.”
