Sorsogon City is stepping onto the global stage as local artists lead the city’s edition of Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk, the world’s largest social photography event that unites over 24,000 participants in more than 1,000 locations every year. The international activity, founded by renowned photographer and educator Scott Kelby, has become a creative tradition where photographers and artists around the world gather to tell powerful stories through images.

The Kurit-Lagting Art Collective, in partnership with Delta Beta Omega (DBO) and the Concerned Artists of the Philippines Bicol Chapter (CAP Bicol), will spearhead the Sorsogon leg. The walk will run simultaneously with other cities in the Philippines and across the world.
Organized through the Sorsogon Initiatives for Culture and Arts Development (SICAD) and supported by Gadgetry City, Soffie’s, Koala Project, Project Mars, Rhymes of Peg (ROP), Sorsogon Arts Council, and Kuya Tonzkie Foodhouse, the Photowalk will bring together photographers, artists, students, and enthusiasts in a celebration of creativity, storytelling, and cultural awareness.

In Sorsogon City, the Photowalk will be a free and inclusive creative gathering beginning with a short Community Participatory Creative Talk. This will be followed by a photowalk exploring the cultural, historical, and everyday life of Sorsogon. Organizers emphasize that this localized version seeks to empower both emerging and experienced photographers by integrating truth-telling, civic awareness, and cultural sensitivity, inviting participants to treat photography as a poetic and ethical act of storytelling.
The walk will start at the Sorsogon State University Pavilion, proceed along Magsaysay Street, and pass through Sulucan, Salog, Burabod, and Polvorista. It will then cross Hollywood and the Public Market, move across the Sirangan area, and exit into the Coastal area. The route will end at the Sorsogon Baywalk (Rompeolas) after a stretch along the Coastal Road.

This year’s Sorsogon Photowalk will be led by Venus Ashtred Briñola, a graduate of Sorsogon State University with a degree in Architectural Drafting. A member of the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective, Venus has worked as a digital artist and layout designer while actively blending art, culture, and community in her projects. Known for her eye for detail, organizational skills, and enthusiasm for visual storytelling, she will guide participants in capturing meaningful images of Sorsogon.
The local theme, “Through the Lens of Truth: Responsible, Reliable, and Culturally Aware Storytelling,” emphasizes photography as both a creative and ethical practice.

For the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective, the activity is about more than just the pictures. “This Photowalk is more than just taking pictures. It is about reclaiming the power of images to tell stories that matter. As artists, we are committed to socially engaged work that reflects both the beauty and the struggles of our communities,” said Judy Azul.
The Concerned Artists of the Philippines Bicol Chapter pointed to art as a powerful voice in society. “Art has always been a tool for truth-telling. Through this Photowalk, we hope to highlight photography as a cultural practice that is responsible, reliable, and aware of the social realities of our times,” said Choi Carretero and Allan Abrigo.
From the youth sector, the focus is on creativity and collaboration. “Young people are eager to express themselves, and photography gives us a collective voice. By walking together, we show how creativity and collaboration can shed light on the issues that shape our lives,” shared Ruth Jocutan of Rhymes of Peg (ROP) and John Vergel Doctor of Delta Beta Omega (DBO).
Private sector support is also evident. “We support this initiative because technology and art go hand in hand. By equipping local creatives with the tools for visual storytelling, we help them amplify their voices and showcase Sorsogon’s rich culture. At Gadgetry City, we believe every creative deserves the right tools. That is why we offer certified pre-owned, industry-standard devices at an affordable price so artists can keep creating, inspiring, and telling their stories without limits,” said Gary George Clotario, COO of Gadgetry City.
In Sorsogon, registration for the 50 official slots is already full, but organizers announced they will still accept a limited number of walk-in participants on the day of the event.
