DepEd TV is set to dub their episodes into local Filipino languages to ensure effective learning for students under the new normal of schooling.

The Philippines’ Department of Education (DepEd) is planning to air educational episodes translated into various major Filipino languages as part of their televised distance learning program for students all over the country.

DepEd Undersecretary Alain Pascua says the episodes dubbed into various local languages will be geared towards primary pupils in Kindergarten to Grade 3. These episodes will also implement Filipino Sign Language for learners with hearing impairments.

Apart from online learning, the department is pursuing alternative ways to air lessons such as through television and radio amid the coronavirus disease crisis in the Philippines.

“Television and radio continue to be very effective channels for instruction and education, hence the DepEd TV and DepEd Radio,” Pascua said, regarding DepEd TV’s relevance.

The Department of Education will air 130 episodes a week covering major subject areas starting October 5, 2020. It enlisted the help of the country’s top journalists to train 172 teachers tapped by DepEd to host the episodes.

The episode’s lectures have a running time of 20 minutes each with five-minute breaks in between, to be aired from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Deped TV is currently having the broadcast test-run of their episodes starting September 21-25, 2020 on partner networks:

  • IBC-13
  • CignalTV
  • Solar Learning Channel
  • GSAT Direct TV

Different learning delivery modalities have been released to fit Filipino learners’ needs. Under distance learning include print-based modules, online learning, TV, and radio-based instructions.

Initiatives started by the government and kind-hearted individuals alike are lending a hand to teachers and distance learners struggling to adjust to the new modes of schooling.

Non-profit Ink2Link is helping public school teachers in Palawan get the printing materials they need to produce learning modules for students.

The city of Manila distributed free educational tools such as tablets, laptops, and WiFi kits for teachers and public schoolchildren.

Filipino celebrities Carmina Villarroel-Legaspi, Heart Evangelista’s Big Heart PH, and Alden Richards gave away distance learning tools to students.
