The La Salle Filipiniana Dance Company (LSFDC) of De La Salle University-Dasmarinas (DLSU-D) in Cavite raised their school’s and the Filipino nation’s pride after winning multiple championship titles at the World Dance Festival 2023 held in Goyang City South Korea.

The DLSU-D Performing Arts Group dominated the competition for Folk Dance Duo, Folk Dance Group, and Folk Dance Formation, bagging 1st place in all three categories over 21 competing nations in the International Dance Organization (IDO)-organized global dance tilt held at the Goyang Aram Nuri Opera House from August 4 to 6.

LSFDC trainer Nina Ricci De Leon defined the value of the dance troupe’s new recognition. “It’s not just about winning or losing, but to learn about teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline and patience. The value of working together for a common goal. Focusing on the basics, not just the competition or event,” De Leon said in the DLSU-D report.

De Leon also posted on her Facebook page about the La Salle Filipiniana Dance Company’s new achievements and gratitude to the people who prayed for and supported them, which brought the La Sallian community and the Philippines honor and pride.

DLSU-D and the dance company’s social media celebrated the big wins for the university dance group that has been working at elevating the art of folk dancing and music through collaborative theatrical performances.

The 2023 World Dance Festival saw La Salle Filipiniana Dance Company joining major dance organizations competing in solo, duet, group, and formation categories for ballet, modern and contemporary, jazz, folklore, tap, and martial arts performances.

The participants also attended a one-day lesson, a city voyage that included the National Folk Museum, the Demilitarized Zone, and Gyeongbokgung Palace, and on their last day in South Korea, they visited the Myeongdong Shopping District.

International Dance Organization is a non-profit World Dance and Dance Sport Federation consisting of over 90 members and contact nations, representing more than 500,000 dancers, from all six continents including Korea Dance Organization, the organizer of the World Dance Festival in South Korea.

Prior to this year’s global dance achievement, La Salle Filipiniana Dance Company won first place at the IDO World Folklore Festival. Earlier this month, Filipino dancers of hip hop Legit Status and HQ Philippines, bagged two World Hip Hop Championship titles in Arizona.
