Cariaga first tried to track down the owner of the cash which had with it a money changer receipt.

After failing to find the owner, he turned over the money to the police, which then traced the money owner as Joel Mondares, an employee of Charlie Tours.

Mondares had earlier reported the lost cash which was intended for the salaries of the travel agency. The tour agency employee admitted his employer thought he was lying about the lost cash, Mondares revealed to SunStar Daily.

Cariaga told media how he never thought of keeping the cash for himself even though he needed money for his sick wife.
