The Philippine Pole and Aerial Sports Association (PPASA) founded by Filipino actress and pole athlete Ciara Sotto is now the national team and an official member of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

Sotto announced the POC recognition for her association on August 10 via social media. The association is also recognized by the International Pole Sports Federation (IPSF).

The pole and aerial sports enthusiasts posted on Instagram about the new recognition for the association she founded and leads as its president.

“I have been working on this for more than 2 years. I am very grateful to the Philippine Olympic Committee for finally recognizing us. This is such a great blessing from God and a very big milestone for the Pole and Aerial community in the Philippines,” posted Sotto.

The recognition from the Philippine Olympic Committee would open opportunities for the association to represent the country in the Olympic Games, the Asian Games, the Southeast Asian Games, and other multi-event competitions.

PPASA is hopeful that they can reach more pole and aerial sports athletes in other parts of the Philippines next year, or after the pandemic subsides. In a live broadcast with PPASA heads Ciara Sotto and Ayjell Acejas, Sotto shares the association’s plans to tap other cities in the country so they can train more athletes and build a professional national team.

Although the association’s bigger plans are put on hold, the actress is excited for its potential in future sporting events. The actress also suggests strength training for pole athletes without proper equipment for the sport at home.

Ciara Sotto started her pole dancing venture in 2010. The actress championed pole dancing as a sport and fitness activity that more people ought to try. Her efforts and aspirations for the sport brought the Philippine Pole and Aerial Sports Association into fruition.

Sporting events are taking place virtually to heed the imposed restrictions for the COVID-19 virus’ containment.

A 13-year-old Cebuana karateka, Janine Narboada nabbed silver in a world kata e-tourney while James De Los Santos took home the gold medal at the Balkan Open E-Tournament.

The Philippines’ top pole vaulter Ernest John “EJ” Obiena is set to compete against fellow 2021 Tokyo Olympians in a virtual contest this coming August.
