Far Eastern University (FEU) now sources over 98% of its total energy needs from renewable sources, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to sustainability and climate action.

As of April 2025, 98.31% of energy across the FEU Group comes from clean sources, thanks to years of investment in green infrastructure and technology.

“Even before sustainability became a trend, the choices FEU made already reflected a strong commitment to resource efficiency and environmental stewardship,” said Edward Kilakiga, Vice President for Facilities and Technical Services.

FEU began its shift to clean energy in 2017 through the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program, starting with a 1,300 kW supply and increasing to 2,550 kW by 2024.

In 2025, FEU expanded its efforts through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), which now supplies renewable power to FEU Manila, Makati, Diliman, Cavite, and Roosevelt campuses in Rodriguez, Cainta, and Marikina. As of April 26, 2025, GEOP accounts for 51.07% of FEU’s renewable energy mix.

FEU also boosted its on-site solar energy production, increasing solar panel capacity by 369.37% in 2024 to reach 468.9 kWp. Notable solar installations include:

  • FEU Roosevelt Rodriguez: 99.9 kWp (April 2019)
  • FEU Roosevelt Marikina: 112 kWp (April 2024)
  • FEU Cavite: 257 kWp (May 2024, Basic and Higher Education buildings)

These systems are expected to generate 524,286 kWh of clean energy per year and reduce over 373.4 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

“These initiatives have strengthened our position across the FEU Group. We invest in sustainable innovations that align with our Aspiration 2028, building momentum as we approach our centennial anniversary,” Kilakiga added.

From national partnerships with clean energy providers to solar-powered campuses, FEU is leading the charge toward greener education by integrating sustainability into operations, education, and community engagement.
