Free Coursera online studies are being made available to thousands of Filipinos – all for free – through the Department of Science and Technology Caraga (DOST-Caraga) partnership program.

DOST-Caraga was granted 50,000 slots to give to Filipinos for free by Coursera, an international massive open online course (MOOC) platform, to aid knowledge and skills upgrading amid pandemic. The slots are open to the public, to anyone in the Philippines over 18 years old.

The partnership is in line with the Workforce Recovery Initiative Learning Program to provide access to thousands of courses from top universities and organizations in the world.

The program partnership allows Filipinos to choose from 3,800 courses for free to earn certificates.

DOST Caraga released these guidelines on how to secure a slot:

  1. Create a Coursera account at coursera.org. Learn the step-by-step process of the Creation of Coursera Account and Name Verification here.

2. Fill out the reservation form here.

3. Attend one online orientation via the DOST-Caraga FB page scheduled every Tuesday, 1:30 PM. Note: The attendance link is unique for every live orientation. It will be open only during the activity.

After a successful application, participants will receive an email from Coursera inviting them to accept the grant. Like and follow the official page of DOST-Caraga at fb.com/dost.Caraga for more details.

Courses offered include company-specific training programs from Coursera partners like Google and IBM and other business-specific training which can also benefit the MSMEs.

Registered learners may enroll in classes in various fields of physical science and engineering, information technology, data science, health, math and logic, language, social sciences, and personal development, among others.

Individuals who get to avail of the scholarship can save at least PHP25,000 to PHP30,000 since this is the price range of online courses via Coursera, shared DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Pena in his public briefing about the program.

The online education platform is designed for learners to study at their own pace and time. Learners will receive certificates for all courses completed until December 2020. They can take as many courses as they can within this period. The last course enrolment is on October 31, 2020.

DOST continues to promote STEM learning on radio and online and has offered the Philippines’ 1st digital science library DOST-STARBOOKS on mobile apps.

SEND CHEERS in the comments below to DOST for providing access to free Coursera studies to Filipinos.
