The Los Angeles Lift-Off Film Festival has selected the Filipino film “Tsub, Tsa” for the First-Time Filmmakers Sessions 2020, the film’s first international screening.

The Hollywood festival, one of the largest festivals in the Lift-Off Global Network, had emailed the confirmation of the film’s selection to its director Syaher “Pao” Ballesteros, who announced the selection on social media on June 14, 2020.

As part of the selection in the First-Time Filmmakers Sessions 2020 “Tsub, Tsa” will go through 3 rounds of screenings including a Video On Demand run and a final screening at the Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom and Raleigh Studios in Hollywood.

Tsub, Tsa had previously won 6 awards at the 1st Makata Indie Film Festival:

  • Best Actor for Jek Jumawan
  • Best Young Artist for Raymound Murilla
  • Best Actress for Antonette Abalaya
  • Audience Choice Award
  • Best Sound for James Coroza)
  • Best Trailer

LA Lift-Off is set at the historic and prestigious Raleigh Studios in the heart of Hollywood and is renowned as a “true celebration of American and International Indie Film – a pure homage to the excellence of today’s grassroots filmmaker.”

The First-Time Filmmakers Sessions event was created to give filmmakers on their initial journey the showcase, the tools, the platform, and advice to build their careers from the right starting point, helping first-time filmmakers to realize their professional lives within film.

Philippine films have been earning recognition from international film festivals even amid the global coronavirus health crisis.

Bicol’s Maricel Balderama won Best Actress for “Hele” at the Sweden Film Awards while Covered Candor bagged film and actor awards for Romm Burlat and Faye Tangonan in the U.S. and Italy.

Meanwhile, Jek Jumawan’s films are currently vying for top awards in the Lockdown FilmFest hosted by FilmFreeway.
