Philippines scores 11 Asia Edition nods at World Travel Awards

The Philippines has received 11 nominations in this year’s World Travel Awards (WTA).

The country was declared a finalist for two awards in the 2021 WTA Asia Edition, namely Asia’s Leading Beach Destination and Asia’s Leading Dive Destination, both of which it won last year.

The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) is also vying to reclaim the title of Asia’s Leading Tourist Board in the annual travel excellence awards.

DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat announced that the WTA which is celebrating its 28th anniversary has shortlisted the Philippines and its properties in multiple categories.

“I am very excited to share with you that, once again, the organizers of the WTA have shortlisted the DOT and the Philippines for multiple awards under the Asia category of its annual program, which is now on its 28th run this 2021,” Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said.

The Philippines received these three major nominations:

  1. Philippines, Asia’s Leading Beach Destination
  2. Philippines, Asia’s Leading Dive Destination
  3. Department of Tourism (DOT), Asia’s Leading Tourist Board

Other nominees from the country in this year’s WTA include:

  1. Intramuros, Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction
  2. Cebu, Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination
  3. Discovery Primea, Asia’s Leading Business Hotel
  4. City of Dreams Manila, Asia’s Leading Casino Resort and Asia’s Leading Fully Integrated Resort
  5. Amanpulo, Asia’s Leading Family Villa Resort and Asia’s Leading Private Island
  6. Raffles Makati Residences, Asia’s Leading Hotel Residences
  7. The Farm at San Benito, Asia’s Leading Retreat
  8. Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila, Asia’s Leading Serviced Apartments

People can cast votes for the Philippinescast votes for the Philippines on WTA’s website until August 16, 2021.

The Philippines scored a total of seven awards in the Asia edition of the WTA in 2020.

The nation afterward took home five recognitions from the 27th World Travel Awards (WTA) – World Edition in 2020, including the prestigious title of World’s Leading Dive Destination, World’s Leading Tourist Attraction, and 3 citations for its resorts.
