UCBL defending champion Diliman College downed by PCU Dasmarinas

Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) defending champion Diliman College was defeated by Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas in their first confrontation for the 2022 season at the Paco Arena in Manila.

Two-time UCBL defending champion Diliman College Blue Dragons was stunned by the PCU-D Dolphins in a major upset, winning the uphill match-up against the crowd favorite with a final score of 69-85.

Best Player of the Game Tita Ngufor Toscannie led the Cavite team to victory with 18 points, 16 rebounds, and 1 steal, delivered on November 17, the second game day after the UCBL opened the 5th season three years after the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

The reigning champion team from Diliman, Quezon City, earlier scored their first win of the current season against the University of Batangas Brahmans, 81-66, with Aldrin Ligon named as Best Player of the Game on Day 1 of the UCBL round 0 held on November 14.

The PG Flex Linoleum UCBL round 0, the first phase of a double round robin, is played by seven teams including Centro Escolar University, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas, Olivarez College, Guang Ming College, Diliman College, University of Batangas, and Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas.

Here are the other highlights of the past week:

  • The Centro Escolar University Scorpions also proved that they’re in the game with a 50-point routing of Guang Ming College,106-56, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in this league. Best Player of the Game Lenard Angelo Santiago scored 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals, taking the Scorpions to its first victory.

 

  • Also on Day 1, Olivarez College won over PCU-Dasmariñas with a final score of 89-85. Mark Joshua Gallano was named Best Player of the Game with 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists.
  • On Day 2 of the UCBL round 0, Olivarez College remained standing on its feet, defeating the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas Pirates with a final score of 77-61. Best Player of the Game Edmund Dela Cruz delivered 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.
  • The CEU Scorpions also remain unscathed as they won against the UB Brahmans with a final score of 99-67. Jerome Santos was hailed Best Player of the Game.

The PG Flex Linoleum UCBL round 0 will run until January 16, 2023.
