Ivatan Vernalyn Amarillo has opened her home to provide shelter and food to families whose houses in Cagayan Valley have been submerged by the flooding due to typhoon Ulysses.

Amarillo, a real estate company branch manager who hails from Itbayat, Batanes, announced in her Facebook post on November 13, 2020, that her home in Brgy. Caggay, Tuguegarao City can be a temporary shelter for flood victims.

The good samaritan who has been living in Cagayan for 12 years now was deeply moved by the situation and found ways to help.

“If anyone out there who wants a temporary shelter, my House is open for you and your family. Just beside Balai Carmela Hotel po and a few steps away from Toyota Tuguegarao City. Warm food and shelter is ready for you. You will get through this in Jesus Name. YOU WILL BE SAFE HERE. Please share,” wrote Amarillo.

Amarillo said that there are 20 evacuees who are currently staying in her home.

Aside from providing shelter to the victims, Amarillo together with her family and volunteers has been active in the feeding and distribution of relief goods to Tuguegarao City and other parts of Cagayan. She uses funds from her own pocket and donations from kind-hearted people who responded to her call.

On November 15, the real estate agent and some volunteers were able to distribute food packs, medicine, and canned goods among others to 500 individuals. They also fed the evacuees in Tuguegarao Northeast Central School.

Amarillo is also active in taking messages from people seeking rescue and has been working in close coordination with the rescue teams.

“In case you have extra time, Please Help me, call or text and get in touch with our rescue Teams and authorities to Help these crying souls. Nakausap ko narin po rescue Teams but we just want to make sure if they have made it. Try niyo rin Please kontak sila if they are okay. Thank you so much!!!! Please share,” said the good samaritan.
