Carlos Yulo made a triumphant return to competition by winning four medals at the 2025 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Jecheon, South Korea, from June 5 to 8. This was Yulo’s first official event since his double Olympic gold victory in Paris nearly a year ago.

Relive the historic moment Carlos Yulo gifted the Philippines with double Olympic gold medals and cemented his legacy as one of the nation’s greatest athletes.

The 25-year-old Filipino gymnastics icon defended his title in the Floor Exercise, earning a gold medal with a top score of 14.600. The Asian Gymnastics Union declared, “There was no stopping Carlos Edriel Yulo. The floor belonged to him from the first tumbling pass to the final stick.”

Yulo also clinched bronze medals in three other events:

  • Individual All-Around at the start of the event on June 5

  • Vault, finishing behind Iran’s Mahdi Olfati and China’s Mingqi Huang

  • Parallel Bars, after a strong performance was overtaken by Japan’s Shinnosuke Oka and Tomoharu Tsunogai

Take a look back at how Carlos Yulo dominated the Asian Gymnastics Championships with 5 medals and secured his World Championships slot in a stellar performance for the Philippines.

This medal haul marked a strong comeback for Yulo, who shared his gratitude in a heartfelt social media post:

Sa ganung panahon, ang daming puwedeng mangyari—and pinag-dasal ko lang po para sa kompetisyong ito ay manatiling malusog, kalmado, at makaraos nang ligtas… pero ang ibinigay sa akin ng Diyos ay higit pa sa anumang hinihiling ko.

(“In that time, so many things could happen—and all I prayed for in this competition was to stay healthy, calm, and get through it safely… but what God gave me was far more than anything I could ever ask for.”)

Yulo expressed thanks to his coaches, mentors, and supporters, calling their support his strength during his quiet months out of the spotlight.

“Lubos ang pasasalamat ko na muli akong nakalaban, at naipadama ulit ang pagmamahal ko sa gymnastics.”

(“I am deeply grateful that I was able to compete again and express my love for gymnastics once more.”)
