Ahead of its 30th founding anniversary in 2026, the Kalilayan Folkloric Group (KFG), in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Makati Ayala Triangle (RCMAT), the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF), and the Rotaract Club of Kalilayan Makati Ayala Triangle, is offering a folk dance seminar-workshop for the people of Quezon Province for free.
Entitled Sayaw Kalilayan, the two-day seminar-workshop is scheduled for September 13 and 14 at the MSEUF Gymnasium in Catanauan, Quezon, where KFG was founded in 1996.
The cultural initiative will put the spotlight on three notable folk dances, namely: Abaruray de Catanauan, Malagueña de Catanauan, and Tubong de Catanauan, which were researched and documented by the late National Artist for Dance Ramon Obusan and KFG founder and artistic director Rommel Padillo Serrano.
Serrano shared with Good News Pilipinas that this seminar-workshop has been his long-time dream, aiming to preserve, promote, and pass down to the next generation of dancers and choreographers the folk dances that originated from his hometown.
More than just dance sessions and lecture-demonstrations, the workshop also includes sessions on costumes, folk dance research, and folk dance staging.
Joining Serrano are cultural worker and researcher Aquino Irasga Jr., along with KFG members and performers Renato Castelo and Dave Parsley Lavalle.
