Binibining Pilipinas 2020 aspirant Samantha Panlilio from Cavite has excited the Filipino pageant community after her national costume photo was unveiled to the media.

In the Binibining Pilipinas photo released on October 30, 2020, the Cavite representative was seen wearing a feathered Filipiniana costume inspired by the history of her home province, the cradle of the Philippines’ revolution against the Spanish empire.

“My national costume was designed by Klevin Bartolaba and symbolizes Cavite’s national heroes, the thirteen martyrs who led the Philippine revolution against Spain in 1896 as seen on the faces sculpted in the crown,” Samantha Panlilio said to ABS-CBN.

“The gown is made of local Filipino fabric,” she continued. “The wings are made of real feathers and tainted with gold to symbolize our kalayaan (independence). The belt colors represent our victory.”

The Caviteña lass further explained that her crown was patterned after the crown of her late aunt Myrna Panlilio, the first-ever Binibining Pilipinas queen who represented the Philippines at the Miss Universe pageant in 1964.

Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) released Panlilio’s photo to ABS-CBN News that came with an announcement that more national costumes of their candidates will be published this November, and hopefully, to stage the national pageant in December.

The Araneta Group of Companies-owned pageant organization previously announced the postponement of this year’s pageant edition because of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Now that the Miss Universe franchise which was handled by BPCI for more than 50 years, has been turned over to the new Miss Universe Philippines organization, the highest crown at stake for the Binibining Pilipinas pageant this year will be the Binibining Pilipinas – International that is currently held by Bea Patricia Magtanong.

The other crowns in the pageant competition are Binibining Pilipinas – Grand International, Binibining Pilipinas – Globe, and Binibining Pilipinas – Intercontinental.

Meanwhile, Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados, who won the Best National Costume award during her Miss Universe stint in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. in December 2019, has crowned her successor Rabiya Mateo in a stand-alone national pageant held in October 2020 in Baguio City.
