The two photographers were among the 12 Filipinos shortlisted for the awards in December 2019.

The Dubai-based Donell Gumiran will vie for top award as one of the Top 10 Photographers in the reportage (photojournalism) category of the WPC 2020.
Gumiran’s “Wall of Burqa” was shot in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on August 30, 2015.
The Dubai-based photogrrapher describes his work:
“The silhouetted figure in Burka facing off with both her shadow and the huge eyes staring back at her, against an apocalyptic, fiery sky. A scene which finds something cinematic and symbolic, and highly relevant in today’s political climate, in what is an unexpected setting – a Guinness World Record attempt in Dubai for the biggest collaborative graffiti painting in the world, in commemoration of its 43rd National Day Celebration.”
Donell Gumiran is a portrait and travel photographer. He is also a Contributor/Photographer at Asian Geographic.
Gumiran is now running for individual Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals and the further placements in the Top 10 lists which will be announced at the World Photographic Cup in Rome, Italy, on March 23, 2020.
Depending on Gumiran’s final ranking, his image can help Team Philippines win the World Photographic Cup 2020.
The WPC was founded in 2013 as a cooperative effort by The Federation of European Photographers (FEP) and Professional Photographers of America (PPA).
Filipino photographers have been earning accolades around the world, among the more recent awardees are, Jophel Botero Ybiosa, the first Filipino to win the Chromatic Awards and Danilo Victoriano who won the APEC Photo Contest Popular Choice Award.
