New York-based Filipina chef Pilar Valdes showcased her skills in making a healthy and delightful dish on “The Drew Barrymore Show.”

Pilar, a private chef and catering company owner of ‘Kickshaw Cookery’, impressed everyone with her mouth-watering quinoa risotto on the Hollywood actress’ show that aired on October 20, 2020.

The “50 First Dates” star referred to the Filipina chef as her “dear friend” and “an incredibly talented chef,” with whom she has been working side-by-side in the kitchen for about 3 years.

The private chef had prepared the vegan dish with quinoa risotto instead of rice – which according to her is “a queen in her home country, the Philippines,” together with winter squash, seared mushrooms, and fresh herbs.

“The weather is starting to get colder [so] we wanted something cozy, something really comforting… The risotto is traditionally made with rice. I’m from the Philippines, rice is queen, I’m all about rice. But sometimes we have to make adjustments in our diet, and quinoa is the most amazing substitute in this dish because it’s packed with protein,” Valdes explained.

During the show, the Hollywood actress kept on complimenting Valdes saying how she helped her satisfy her cravings while maintaining her healthy diet.

“With Pilar, we figured out how to make all these craving dishes but in a way that’s really healthy and great for digestion and keeps the weight off. I’ve been doing now for a long time with you [Pilar] and I’m happy! says the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ actor.

Valdes and her company Kickshaw are known for cooking fresh and tasty meals they prepare from scratch while keeping dietary requirements. They regularly cater to companies and organizations throughout New York City.

Filipino chefs have been awarded by various renowned recognitions including the first Filipino White House executive chef Cristeta Comerford, Fil-Am chef Tom Cunanan of Bad Saint who won in the James Beard Awards, and Chef Margarita Forés who was appointed by the United Nations as an Ambassador For Gastronomy Tourism.
