Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano and his wife, talent manager Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano, opened up about their 40-year marriage and shared career in a heartfelt interview on Beyond The Exchange with Rico Hizon. The power couple credited their enduring love and partnership to one key element: faith.
“God, period,” Angeli answered when asked about their secret to a lasting relationship. “A three-part cord cannot be broken, meaning if you make Him the center of your relationship, everything is covered—your business, your family, everything.”
Gary added, “The spark is the fact that the couple has to have in mind that it’s a journey… that’s what creates the dynamic of a 40-year marriage.”

Despite facing personal and professional challenges, including Gary’s decades-long battle with diabetes, the couple emphasized how trust, understanding, and teamwork have held them together. Angeli recounted witnessing Gary suffer a diabetic seizure in 1984, saying, “That was 1984. I was pregnant at the time… and I thought, am I going to marry this guy for 40 years?”
Throughout the years, Angeli has remained Gary’s anchor—both backstage and in life—ready to act when his sugar levels dip during performances. “Sometimes by just looking at me, she knows already,” Gary shared.
The interview also highlighted their dynamic as business partners running Manila Genesis Entertainment. While they often debate creative decisions—especially when conceptualizing Gary’s concerts—they always return to their shared mission. “Souls are our goals,” Angeli said. “Why are you on stage? Is it just to entertain or to inspire?”
Their son, Paolo Valenciano, serves as concert director and mediator between the couple. “He’s like the buoy,” Gary said. “When the waters get rough, he helps us find balance.”
The couple’s final major solo concert, Gary V: Pure Energy One Last Time, was staged on December 20 and 22, 2024, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. This marked Gary’s farewell to solo concerts of this scale, though he’s open to future collaborations.
“It’s the final page of a chapter, not the final page of the book,” said Gary.
The star-studded lineup featured P-pop groups SB19 and BGYO, hip-hop icon Gloc-9, South Border’s Jay Durias, Erik Santos, and Julie Ann San Jose, with unique guest performers each night. Their children, Kiana and Gab Valenciano, flew in from the U.S. to join the show.
As they look to the future, Gary dreams of producing an inspirational album, acting in theater, and possibly staging a Gary V musical.
To aspiring “couplepreneurs”, Angeli offered this advice: “Get a good accountant. Get a good lawyer. Know your ‘why.’ If your motive is just profit, you will fail.”
Gary closed with his formula for work-life balance: “Family first. In family, God is part of that. Then exercise. Then career. That’s how I balance everything on my plate.”
