The award-winning Filipino film “Sunday Beauty Queen” will be streaming on YouTube for Filipinos under lockdown.

Sunday Beauty Queen is directed by Baby Ruth Villarama, one of the Filipino filmmakers to join Lady Gaga and Adele in the Oscars’ Academy Class of 2019.

The film’s director introduces herself as “a child of a missing domestic worker and to tell you the truth, I have not found her until now.”

The multi-awarded 2016 documentary feature film about Filipina domestic helpers joining a beauty pageant received recognitions from the 40th Gawad Urian Awards (Best Documentary Award), 42nd MMFF Gabi ng Parangal (Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award, Best Picture, Best Editing), and the 10th CinemAsia Film Festival (Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary).

The film’s Facebook page announced, “Because you asked for it. On May 15, 2020, this crown is yours. 💕👑💋 Sunday Beauty Queen is streaming on Youtube for all of you.”

Netizens anticipating to watch Baby Ruth Villarama’s documentary film welcomed the streaming.

“One of the best films of 2010s 😍🤗,” posted Erniel Martin.

“CAN FINALLY WATCH THIS!!!!! THANK YOUUUUUUUUU!!! 💪,” Paul Adrian Samarita wrote.

“OMG this is great news!” Many Marahimin commented.

Sunday Beauty Queen is described as the story of Filipinas “working as domestic helpers in relative anonymity and for near-slave wages. In a beauty pageant like no other in the world, five helpers give themselves makeovers for a day and gleefully reclaim their dignity.”

“My experience with thousands of Filipino overseas workers has propelled me to make the film Sunday Beauty Queen, and once again make use of the knowledge I acquired during Chevening to contribute to the global campaign against modern-day slavery in different cities around the world,” said the film’s director, a Global Alumni Awardee of the British Council.

Baby Ruth Villarama’s other film, Jazz in Love, also produced by Chuck Gutierrez streamed it live on Voyage Studios’ YouTube Channel in March.

Sunday Beauty Queen will stream for free on TBA Studios YouTube on May 15, 2020.
