In celebration of National Heritage Month this May 2025, a tribute concert will be held in honor of the late Sylvia La Torre (1933–2022), known as the Queen of Kundiman and the First Lady of Philippine Television.
Titled “Ibyang, Mahal Kita,” the concert is a joint project of the Filipino Heritage Festival Inc. (FHFI), the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and the Metropolitan Theater.
Headlining the performance is multi-awarded Filipino opera singer and the country’s premier soprano, Rachelle Gerodias-Park, who will portray Sylvia La Torre. She will be joined by her husband, Byeong-In Park, one of South Korea’s most acclaimed baritones.
The couple will perform alongside Tinig Kayumanggi, Wincess Yana, and Danspace, with musical accompaniment by the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Daniel Bartolome.
The concert will highlight Sylvia La Torre’s illustrious career as a stage performer, recording artist, radio talent, and television and film star, as well as her invaluable contribution to Philippine music, culture, arts, and entertainment.
“People are going to be made aware of what she [Sylvia La Torre] has done and perhaps, hopefully, they will want to find out more about her. And by knowing her, she will then serve as an inspiration for the younger generation even more than she already is,” shared scriptwriter and director Dennis Marasigan in an interview with the morning show Rise and Shine Pilipinas.
Additionally, working behind the scenes to bring “Ibyang, Mahal Kita” to life are Jeddi Cris Celeste (music arranger), Ohm David (stage designer), Roldan Lozano (lighting designer), and Rommel Padillo Serrano (production stylist), whose creative talents shape the overall look and feel of the tribute concert.
The tribute concert premieres on May 29 at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila, with a 2:00 PM show open to the public and a 7:00 PM invitational performance.
