Jake and Charice, a documentary about the life of transgender Filipino singer Jake Zyrus, has won the 4th Diversify TV Excellence Awards in France.

The documentary bagged the award for the Non-Scripted category of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) section in the annual awards show presented by Parisian DJ Kiddy Smile.

Jake Zyrus posted the video announcement of his win via social media on October 14, 2020.

“Thank you MIPCOM Diversify TV Excellence Awards for recognising my story. Thank you to my TEAM for the support system, ABS-CBN and most of all, NHK (Hiroko, Akiko, Ma’am Teresita & Yusaku) for believing in me and my story,” the singer wrote.

The Diversify TV Excellence Awards by Marché International des Programmes de Communication (MIPCOM) champions diversity and inclusion across the international television industry.

The Jake and Charice docu covers the brave coming-out story and transition of the celebrated Filipina singer formerly known as Charice Pempengco to a transgender man, Jake Zyrus.

The docu previously snagged the Gold Camera Award at the United States International Film Festival for its fearless portrayal of social issues.

The Jake and Charice docu is now vying for this year’s International Emmy Awards to take place on November 23, 2020, in New York City.

The award-winning documentary was produced by Nippon Hoso Kyokai (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) in association with Philippine broadcast network, ABS-CBN.
