The Philippines’ ranking jumped up four notches in the 2019 World Economic Forum Travel and Tourism (WEF T&T) Competitiveness Report.

The Philippines’ standing among 140 nations went up to 75th place in 2019, up four spots from 79th place in the 2017 edition of the biennial WEF Travel and Tourism Index.

The Philippines scored 3.8 out of 7 points in the latest WEF T&T Report released in September, improving the 3.6 score the country held both in the 2017 and 2015 WEF T&T Report editions. The improvement is considered the fastest rate among the nations.

The WEF noted how “the Philippines had the fastest rate of improvement, moving up four places to rank 75th globally – the most improved overall performance in the region. The country showed impressive improvement” on the following metrics:

  1. overall infrastructure – from 90th spot to 80th
  2. information and communications technology readiness – from 86th to 82nd

The WEF T&T Report indicates the Philippines posted its highest ranking in the following:

  1. Price Competitiveness – 24th with a score of 5.9
  2. Natural Resources – 36th with a score of 3.8
  3. Human Resources and Labor Market – 37th with a score of 5.0

The WEF Travel and Tourism Report also noted the Philippines can improve its score if it betters in the metrics for safety and security, health and hygiene.

Philippine tourism has posted a record-breaking number of foreign tourist arrivals in the first half of the year.

The country’s airports have also been hailed as Best for Business Travelers, Most Improved Airport, with 4 of airports making the Best in Asia list.
