Here are the newest solar ambassadors to take on the Light it Forward video challenge which is a part of a global effort to end energy poverty.

Liter of Light established the challenge in the Philippines to bring sustainable electricity to homes without light. The foundation also aims to honor frontliners in their fight against the spread of COVID-19 by dedicating each hand-built solar lamp to them.

Challengers are asked to dedicate a solar light from the campaign to a frontline worker who has made a positive impact on their lives during the pandemic.

The LIGHT IT FORWARD video challenge calls on everyone to become solar engineers for a day by assembling components of solar-powered lamps for twenty to thirty minutes. Solar advocates pass on the challenge to their friends and family to continue the noble cause of providing light to impoverished homes and communities all over the country.

The inspiring grassroots campaign won the Asia Pacific Social Innovation and Partnership Award (APSIPA) for its unconventional and eco-friendly solution to energy poverty in the world.

Light it Forward’s solar lamps benefit the environment by replacing traditional sources of lighting villagers depend on such as kerosene lamps which are often hazardous and costly to use. Each hand-built solar light made from recycled material reduces carbon emissions by at least 1,000 kg.

The campaign has relied on the help of 120 celebrities, influencers, artists, and an estimated total fan base of 30 million supporters who boost awareness for communities still living in the dark through the challenge.

The Light it Forward campaign now has six more solar challengers:

  • Actress Rhian Ramos
  • GMA News Reporter Lei Alviz
  • Star Magic artist Arturo Daza
  • Television host / VJ Aya Fernandez
  • President of the Hepatology Society of the Philippines, Dr. Roberto “Argie” de Guzman, Jr. and his son
  • Dr. Emily Mia Sy

All the hand-built solar lamps from the LIGHT IT FORWARD challenge will be donated to remote villages or impoverished communities with limited or no access to electricity.

These solar ambassadors comprise the 5th group of Light it Forward challengers. Check out batch 1, batch 2, batch 3, and batch 4 here.

The APSIPA-awarded Light it Forward campaign is led by the Liter of Light Foundation in partnership with GoodNewsPilipinas.com and the Rotary Club of Makati Business District.
