Student journalist and debater Arabella Garciano went on social media to tell the world of her gratitude to a doctor who saved her life when she was a baby.
The 17-year-old Garciano posted a picture of her and pediatric surgeon Dr. Maribel Du of the University of Cebu Medical Center and introduced the doctor as the one who operated on her for free when she was a sickly baby in need of an operation.
“17 years ago, a sickly baby needed an operation because she has a cyst on her chest. The mother only has ₱40 on her wallet. But this doctor operated the child. For free.
And that is why I need to become a doctor. I need to share the same kindness I was lucky enough to receive.
By the way, this is Dr. Maribel Du. Pediatric surgeon. The person who I owe my whole life,” wrote the science high school student.
Arabella Garciano’s January 23 tweet and Instagram story has since been retweeted over 8,000 times with over 37 thousand likes, and elicited comments from netizens all over the world, cheering her on for wanting to give back to society.
